Kay is an Independent Photographer based in Olympia, Washington, USA. She comes to documentary photography inspired by its power to motivate environmental and social change. She has a self-designed major emphasizing creative communication from The Evergreen State College. From still photography and video to audio, Kay collects stories.
Kay’s recent work documents the efforts of researchers who specialize in owls – Burrowing Owls on the Umatilla Chemical Depot and Flammulated Owls in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. At the guidance of David Johnson, Director of the Global Owl Project, she photographs the researchers, volunteers and gives insight into the work they do, much of the work is at night and lit only by headlamps! Inspired by the collaboration of men and women who make a serious commitment of their time and resources to foster conservation and change. Her pictures have been used in various electronic and paper articles including 'The Sitting Duck'.
